Ten ski areas sit within an hour and a half of Salt Lake City International. Alta and Snowbird are forty-five minutes away and average over five hundred inches of snow a year. Park City Mountain is the largest resort in the country. Deer Valley still doesn't allow snowboards.
What that proximity hides is that the last twenty minutes of every one of those drives is a canyon road in winter. Parley's is an interstate and handles storms well. Little Cottonwood has an enforced traction law and closes for avalanche control. Empire Pass is steep enough that rental cars get stuck on it every season. Our drivers run these roads daily, in four-wheel-drive vehicles, all winter.
And it isn't only a winter business. The same canyons carry people to wildflowers in Albion Basin, concerts at Deer Valley, reservoirs at the Jordanelle and Pineview, and the Mirror Lake Highway through Kamas.
